The Mayflower Society: Who We Are and What We Do

The Mayflower Society is an organization of people who have documented their descent from one or more of the passengers aboard the historic ship the Mayflower. The Society was founded in 1890 “to collect and preserve material relating to the history of the Mayflower, her passengers and their descendants.”

The work of the Society is accomplished by a dedicated group of volunteer researchers, writers and editors who share a passion for History. Their efforts result in the publication of a wide variety of materials, including books, pamphlets, articles, family histories, databases, and our quarterly journal, The Mayflower Descendant.

In addition to preserving Records and documenting family lineages, the Society also strives to promote fellowship among its members and encourage public commemoration of Mayflower history. To that end, we sponsor events such as seminars, lectures, research trips and our annual meeting (known as The General Court), which is held each September in Plymouth, Massachusetts – site of the Pilgrims’ first home in the New World.

The Mayflower: A Brief History

The Mayflower was a ship that transported the first English settlers to the New World in 1620. The Mayflower Society is an organization that promotes the study of this historic event and its impact on America.

The Mayflower Society was founded in 1897 by a group of people who were interested in learning more about the Mayflower and its passengers. The society provides resources and support for research, education, and public outreach. The society also offers membership opportunities for those interested in joining.

The Mayflower Society: Our Purpose and Goals

The Mayflower Society was established in 1897 to collect and preserve genealogical and historical data relating to the passengers of the Mayflower who came to Plymouth in 1620.

Our purpose is threefold:

1) To encourage research into and preserve data pertaining to the Mayflower passengers and their descendants;
2) To educate others about these early pioneers and their contributions to the development of our nation; and
3) To instill pride in these ancestors and their accomplishments.

To achieve these goals, we sponsor numerous activities throughout the year, including conferences, seminars, workshops, pilgrimages, exhibitions, and publications. We also award scholarships to assist those pursuing advanced studies in genealogy and history.

The Mayflower Society: How We Work

The Mayflower Society is a non-profit membership organization that strives to maintain the history and honor the memory of the brave Pilgrims who journeyed to America on the Mayflower in 1620. We work to educate the public about the Pilgrim story and the significant role that our ancestors played in the founding of this great nation. We also work to preserve and protect Pilgrim artifacts and sites.

To achieve our mission, we rely on the generous support of our members and donors. Membership dues and donations help us to fund our educational initiatives, our artifact preservation efforts, and our site protection projects. We are very grateful for the support of those who believe in our mission and who are dedicated to preserving Pilgrim history for future generations.
